Visit to Denver – June 2012

Denver - Light Rail crossing the Mall

A recent trip to Denver afforded me some time to see how the Mile High City operates on a given day. Normally, when I come home from visiting somewhere with a great urban identity and awesome transit, I spend hundreds of words describing it. This time around, instead of beating my head on the wall comparing how …

Complete Streets Proposal

The City County Council is considering a motion that would adopt a Complete Streets ordinance.  This ordinance would encourage transportation projects that would allow for safe passage for all modes of travel. A good example from my own history is located on the south side, where I used to live when I first moved here …

What if Indy Connect never happens?

Regional stakeholders continue to push for action at the state level allowing local power to create funding options for transit. I know this because I am a part of the transit coalition debating this issue. However, a recent conversation brought to light an interesting notion. What could the city of Indianapolis do on its own …

Former Indianapolis resident Kris Davidson reflects on public transit in her new city. As Urban Indy reported back in October, Indianapolis received …

Quantifying Transit Equality

A recent epiphany came to me when I was debating how we advocate for transit improvements. Often times, as an advocate, its hard to easily craft a message that everyday citizens can understand; especially when we live in a time where nearly everyone alive grew up during the rise and golden age of the automobile. …

Cincinnati Breaks Ground on Modern Streetcar

Cincinnati Streetcar Groundbreaking (image credit: Casey Jo Ailes)

Cincinnati officially broke ground on it’s modern streetcar system on Friday February 17th, 2012. The ceremony took place in the street in front of Memorial Hall in the heart of the historic Over the Rhine neighborhood. The location was fitting as streetcar tracks from yesterday’s system still reside in the brick paved street in front …
