Having grown up in Indianapolis, I have come back to the city from time to time, and even when I’m away, I’ve enjoyed reading about the constant transformation one can expect in any city…or suburb, or town. Truthfully, I’m interested in all patterns of human settlement, from unpretentious mid-sized Midwestern burgs to glittery metropolises, from pastures to junkyards, from struggling small towns to rampant decentralization (what the less hopeful usually label “sprawl”). I’ve been exploring all of this for the past few years in my own blog American Dirt and will continue to do so from time to time, but while I’m living or visiting my home city, I hope to capture what’s going on in metro Indy that might not always loom large in the public eye.
