Thus begins the season of wandering past the vendors and selecting fresh fruits and veggies (along with the best pastry place in town). Huzzah!
A Downtown street will close to vehicles today to make way for vendors peddling fruit, vegetables and popcorn for this year’s first Farmer’s Market.
The event, which will return every Wednesday until the fall, features more than 40 vendors in booths and tables near the City Market on Market Street east of Delaware Street.“It’s a good sign summer’s coming back,†said Greg McGuire, who has managed the “Olde Tyme Poppin Korn†booth for about eight years. The vendors are typically farmers who actually grow the produce they sell, said Ann McWilliams, marketing director for the City Market.
“This is a growers’ market,†McWilliams said. “When you come here, you get the real deal.â€
The market will be open from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each Wednesday through October.
